Teak should be used wherever the distinguished look of one of the world's most prized woods is desired. Maintained properly, a quality piece of teak furniture will last for many generations.
Teak (Tectura Grandis) is a genus of tropical trees native to the south and southeast of Asia. Teak is chosen for its characters which are easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed location, where it is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish.
Balau is about 40% more dense than Oak and is rated as "very durable" by the MTC. Balau is used for railway sleepers, wharfing, decks and shipbuilding, so you can rest assured that the furniture is very long lasting. Balau is a very dense, oil-rich tropical hardwood from Southeast Asia. Its strength and weather resistance make it ideal for outdoor industrial purposes like wharf construction, bridges, ship building and outdoor furniture.
Mahogany is a reddish-brown hardwood with a medium grain. Mahogany Wood (Swietenia Macrophylla), does not originate from Indonesia rainforests. The settlers brought the seeds 400 years ago from Honduras. They started growing Mahogany to build their houses. Years later, Indonesians started using these hardwoods for making carvings and furniture. Today mahogany grows foremost on plantations.
